Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu of the Church of Uganda stated that the church will no longer accept ‘sinful money’ from donors whose support has declined due to its firm stance on biblical family values.

Speaking at a thanksgiving service on March 26 marking 52 years of the Directorate of Household and Community Transformation (HCT), he emphasized the need for financial self-reliance. ‘We must find a way of making money for the gospel. We should not allow anyone to entice us or lure us into sin because of money,’ Kaziimba said.

The event launched a campaign to raise Shs50 billion for The Lweza Training and Conference Centre, a hospitality facility aimed at generating revenue. The project includes modern accommodation, conferencing halls, training labs, children’s parks, and health facilities. The church plans to collect Shs10 billion annually until 2030.

President Yoweri Museveni, represented by Vice President Jessica Alupo, praised the initiative and pledged Shs2 billion, highlighting Uganda’s investment climate and the project’s potential to create jobs, especially for youth.

The HCT, established in 1974 by Archbishop Janan Luwum amid war, now aids refugees, disaster victims, and communities through agriculture, skills training, water projects, and more. The church also aims to plant 15 million trees by 2027 for environmental conservation.
