A tragic accident unfolded on Tuesday evening in Arua City when a parked Mitsubishi Fuso truck rolled uncontrollably down a hilly stretch of School Road in Burser Ward, Central Division.
The incident occurred around 4:30 pm along Arua Public Cell. The truck, which had been left unattended by the roadside while its driver loaded goods from a nearby kiosk, reversed into an oncoming motorcycle.
West Nile police spokesperson SSP Josephine Angucia explained that the motorcycle struck the truck’s rear, ejecting both rider and passenger. The truck then ran over the passenger’s head, causing instant death.
The victim was identified as Alex Amayo. The rider, whose details remain unknown, was rushed to Arua Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition. Amayo’s body was taken to the hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Both vehicles were impounded at Arua Central Police Station. The truck driver has fled, and investigations are ongoing. Reports indicate the truck was in poor mechanical condition.
SSP Angucia called on vehicle owners to ensure regular servicing to avoid such fatal mishaps.
