Migration experts have voiced alarm over the growing trend of irregular migration in the East African region, often enabled by criminal syndicates exploiting vulnerable workers.

In response, the East African Community (EAC) is pushing forward efforts to align labour export policies among its partner states. The goal is to create a unified framework that promotes safe and legal pathways for labour mobility.

This harmonization process seeks to address gaps in current regulations, curb human trafficking, and protect Ugandan and other EAC workers seeking opportunities abroad.

Discussions highlight the urgency of these measures as irregular crossings continue to rise, posing security and economic challenges.
