The Democratic Party (DP) in Uganda has raised alarms over the persistent postponement of Local Council (LC) elections, arguing that it endangers the foundation of community-level democracy.

DP leaders emphasize that these delays weaken the voice of ordinary citizens at the grassroots, where LC structures play a crucial role in local decision-making and development.

To address this, the party proposes integrating LC polls into the broader national election cycle. This move, they say, would streamline the process, reduce costs, and guarantee regular democratic participation at all levels.

The call comes amid concerns that prolonged delays erode public trust in electoral institutions and hinder effective local leadership.
