A concerned individual named Amos shared his worry: despite no sexual activity for 10 years, he developed burning sores on his penis, diagnosed as an incurable STD. He wondered if this was possible without intimacy.

Medical advice clarifies that viral STDs like HIV, herpes simplex, HPV, and hepatitis B cannot be fully cured by current treatments. Prevention through vaccines is key where available.

Herpes simplex virus (HSV) causes recurring painful blisters on lips or genitals in both sexes. Traditionally, HSV-1 affected the mouth and HSV-2 the genitals, but oral sex has blurred these lines.

After infection, the virus hides in nerves and can flare up later. Common triggers include stress, weather shifts, fevers, tiredness, hormonal changes, or sexual friction.

Transmission happens via direct contact with active sores or infected fluids, or from mother to child during birth. Crucially, celibate people with past infections can still experience outbreaks.

Syphilis or mouth ulcers might mimic herpes, so seeing a doctor for accurate diagnosis and care is essential.
