Muslim leaders in Soroti City used the Idd ul-Fitr festivities to emphasize the importance of respecting leaders across government, cultural, and religious spheres.
County Sheikh Yusuf Okiror delivered this message during a sermon at Swaria Primary School, highlighting that such respect aligns with Quranic teachings. He warned that disrespect erodes leaders’ confidence and effectiveness, urging people to channel grievances through legal channels and public institutions instead of outbursts.
Sheikh Imam Musa Badru Bukoma of Taqua Mosque echoed calls for peace and unity, advising Muslims to share with family, friends, and neighbors. He promoted supporting government and community development programs to combat poverty.
Local resident Ms Hamisi Mwajuma advised women to instill decency in their children from a young age, particularly through proper dressing, to foster respect and prepare them for future roles.
