Muslims in Tororo celebrated Idd ul-Fitr on Friday with a historic reconciliation that healed a leadership divide lasting over two years.

At the Main Mosque, former district Kadhi Sheikh Ibrahim Yusuf Asante and his successor Sheikh Malik Nasur Koire embraced before the congregation, symbolizing brotherhood and unity.

The conflict arose from accusations of office abuse against Sheikh Asante, leading to his impeachment and a court case. The High Court in Mbale cleared him of all charges.

Sheikh Asante announced his forgiveness for opponents and vowed to support Sheikh Koire for community progress. ‘Unity is strength,’ he stated, emphasizing Islamic values.

Sheikh Koire expressed joy at the reconciliation, crediting Dr. Abdallah Koire for mediation and noting the challenges of leading a divided group.

Hajji Imran Muluga, chairperson of the Muslim Supreme Council in Tororo, praised the leaders and quoted the Quran on peace through divine guidance and mutual respect.

Tororo municipality MP-elect Shyam Jay Tanna urged political figures to emulate this unity, calling for cooperation over division post-elections.
