Vipers and Kitara made light work of their Round of 16 opponents in the Stanbic Uganda Cup, securing spots in the quarterfinals with convincing wins on Wednesday.
Kitara delivered the round’s biggest thrashing, demolishing Kasese-based Big League outfit Bunyaruguru United 6-0 at Butema Royal Park. The Royals led 3-0 at halftime courtesy of strikes from Gadaffi Wahab, Jimmy Kalema, and defender Kato Nemeyimana’s debut goal for the club. Benjamin Nyakoojo, George Ssenkaaba, and Kabon Living added to the scoreline in the second half under coach Wasswa Bbosa.
At Kitende, Vipers showed no mercy against Iganga United, running out 4-0 victors. Defender Hillary Mukundane opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a header from Yunus Sentamu’s corner. Substitute Gusto Mulongo broke the deadlock late on with a sharp turn and finish from Karim Watambala’s cross, before heading his second from Enock Luyima’s delivery. Mukundane sealed the rout with a diving header off Usama Arafat’s free-kick.
Vipers now join KCCA, NEC, and fourth-division Happy Boys Kagaba in the quarterfinal lineup, with the draw slated for next week.
