Morris Ongwech Ends 37-Year Wait with Hole-in-One at Entebbe Club

Morris Ongwech, a long-time Entebbe Club golfer, finally scored his first hole-in-one after 37 years on the course during the Katogo Golf Series. The handicap 11 player aced the 220-yard par-3 16th hole, marking a memorable moment despite missing the car's prize on another hole. Morris Ongwech, who started his golf journey as a caddie at Entebbe Club in 1989, achieved a career milestone last weekend. Growing up near the course, he became a student member and full member by 1993, even helping expand it from 10 to 18 holes.

Playing off a handicap of 11, Ongwech doesn’t compete often due to work but shone in the first leg of I&M Bank’s Katogo Golf Series at Entebbe. He sank a hole-in-one on the par-3 16th hole, 220 yards away, using a Ping 6-iron alongside Innocent Kihika, Robbins Mwehairwe, and Twinemanzi Tumumbweine.

‘It felt smooth and fluid,’ Ongwech recalled, receiving a certificate from club captain Serwano Walusimbi. Though he missed the zero-mileage Mitsubishi Outlander prize on the 10th hole—insured by GA Insurance and sponsored by Victoria Motors—he got a set of car tires instead.

Entebbe Club, East and Central Africa’s oldest course with six par-3 holes, has seen recent aces by players like Berna Musanabera, who won a car last month. Ongwech joins a list including Stephen Baguma, Paul Nsereko, and others.
