The Masaka High Court intervened to stop the burial of prominent businessman Bosco Ssenyonjo and his two children following a heated dispute between his widow, Jane Nabukeera, and his relatives.

Nabukeera, represented by lawyer Alexander Lule, filed an urgent court application against Ssenyonjo’s brother Mike Ssenyonjo, mother Maria Norah Nakayiza, and other family members. She seeks permission to bury her husband at their multimillion-shilling home in Kaduggala-Mukungwe Cell, Nyendo/Mukungwe Municipality, Masaka City, insisting it was his wish. The in-laws preferred the ancestral site in Kyalusowe Cell.

The conflict erupted Tuesday afternoon, with a planned burial set for Wednesday at 4pm. Justice Victoria Nakintu Katamba urged mediation, giving parties three hours to agree or face mortuary storage. Despite partial consensus on burying the children at the new home and Ssenyonjo at ancestral grounds, Nabukeera withdrew after external advice, leading to impasse.

The judge directed the bodies—Ssenyonjo, Sherina Nankindu, and Simon Trevor Ssenyonjo—to remain at St. Joseph Catholic Missionary Hospital Kitovu morgue until March 26. Parties can notify the court earlier if they reach an agreement.

The family perished in a fatal early Monday crash on the Entebbe Express Highway in Wakiso District. Driving a Toyota Land Cruiser (UBG 734S), Ssenyonjo lost control at high speed near Mpala Interchange, hitting a streetlight, road pillar, and overturning. Nabukeera and another daughter survived; the latter is hospitalized.

They had traveled from Masaka Sunday for a Monday flight to Canada via Entebbe Airport, with Nankindu reportedly back to take Trevor for studies.
