Ugandan rugby teams are shifting focus from the Nile Special Rugby Premiership to the historic Enterprise Cup this weekend, pitting top clubs from Uganda against Kenyan sides.

KCB Kobs, currently third in the league standings after six matchdays, will travel to Nakuru’s ASK Showground to face Nondescript on Saturday at 2pm. The squad recently bounced back from early setbacks—a 26-24 loss to Pirates and a 10-10 draw with Victoria Sharks—with wins over Jinja Hippos, Rhinos, Makerere Impis, and Kakira.

Assistant coach Keith Sseruyange highlighted the tournament’s value for benchmarking against strong Kenyan teams like Nondies. “This exposure challenges our players beyond local competition and aids preparation for events like the Elgon Cup,” he stated, emphasizing growth in physicality, decision-making, and pressure execution for younger players.

Despite Nondies sitting ninth in Kenya’s log, Kobs anticipates a fierce battle and aims to advance to the semifinals. The club last competed in the Enterprise Cup from 1997 to 2004, with Nondies previously facing Ugandan side Kampala RFC XV in 2006.

Post-match, Kobs face rivals Platinum Credit Heathens in the league, making squad management crucial amid travel demands. Sseruyange stressed the need for a strong showing to build momentum.

Other quarterfinals include Heathens vs. Kabras Sugar and Pirates vs. KCB Rugby at 2pm and 4pm in Kampala’s Muteesa II Royal Stadium, Wankulukuku, plus Toyota Buffaloes vs. Menengai Oilers at 4pm in Nakuru.
