The Senegal Football Federation (FSF) has announced it will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) following a shocking ruling that revoked their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.

CAF’s Appeals Board overturned the original 1-0 victory for host nation Morocco, declaring a 3-0 forfeit in Morocco’s favor. This stemmed from several Senegal players walking off the field temporarily after a late penalty was awarded to Morocco, breaching Articles 82 and 84 of the Afcon regulations.

FSF slammed the verdict as ‘unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable,’ arguing it tarnishes the continent’s football integrity. ‘This unjust decision brings African football into disrepute,’ the federation stated, vowing to defend Senegal’s rights at CAS in Lausanne.

Senegal contends that only the match referee could declare a forfeit by blowing the final whistle, which did not occur. FSF Secretary General Abdoulaye Seydou Sow called it a ‘travesty’ with no legal basis, insisting the truth and law favor Senegal.

Meanwhile, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation welcomed the outcome, emphasizing their push was for proper enforcement of competition rules to ensure stability in African tournaments.
