King’s College Budo witnessed a significant leadership transition on March 16, 2026, when outgoing headteacher Canon John Fred Kazibwe passed the mantle to Godfrey Kasamba, his former deputy.
Kasamba, now the 15th headmaster, reflected on his long journey at the school, starting as a young teacher during university practice. He has held various roles including sports master, head of examinations, and PTA teacher representative.
Pledging continuity, Kasamba committed to advancing his predecessor’s successes and completing key projects like a new student chapel. He thanked Kazibwe for mentorship and leaders for ensuring a smooth handover.
Kazibwe, retiring after 34 years in public service, served as deputy headmaster from 2007 and headmaster for the last four years. He highlighted challenges such as land management, protecting assets, and handling over 6,126 applications for just 200 spots in 2026.
Under his watch, the school improved infrastructure with new buildings, better sanitation, water supply, and modern toilets. Kazibwe’s proudest legacy remains instilling lasting values in students, emphasizing character over structures.
He advised Kasamba to stay resolute amid external pressures. Governing board chair Jim Rogers Katende lauded Kazibwe’s revival of academics and infrastructure, expressing faith in Kasamba’s leadership.
This change ushers in a fresh chapter as Budo gears up for its 120th anniversary on March 30.
