First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga urged Kamuli District Council leaders to abandon plans for nominating district service commission members, emphasizing that the incoming chairperson-elect, Kaloli Dhizala, should make those appointments.

Speaking at Bulopa Secondary School during delayed Women’s Day celebrations on March 13, 2026, Kadaga stressed that the current council’s term is ending soon. “It would be unfair to establish a service commission when a new chairperson is about to take office,” she stated, encouraging Dhizala to select his own team.

Kadaga directly addressed outgoing chairperson Sarah Sambya, advising her and councillors to step back. “Councillors should leave the issue alone; it is not their business,” she said firmly, pledging to fight any premature moves.

The intervention comes amid public concerns over corruption claims. Deputy speaker Victoria Apiri revealed plans for a secretive council meeting outside Kamuli to dodge scrutiny, while Resident District Commissioner Rose Birungi noted reports of people being scammed with fake job promises.

Sambya rejected the bribery accusations, denying any wrongdoing. Dhizala echoed the call to halt the process, prioritizing residents’ interests, as the district currently uses Buyende’s service commission.
