Education Minister Janet Museveni has underscored the importance of preparing teachers adequately for the upcoming reforms to the A-Level curriculum, known as the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).

Speaking at the release of the 2025 A-Level exam results at Nakasero State Lodge, she noted that the Ministry of Education and Sports, alongside the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC), is streamlining the UACE syllabus by removing redundant content and aligning teaching methods with those used in the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) for better student transitions.

Museveni drew lessons from the UCE implementation, stating that teacher training departments must collaborate closely to avoid past pitfalls. She expressed optimism that successful UCE practices would be replicated at A-Level, leading to similar positive outcomes.

The minister was pleased with this year’s results, pointing to a surge in candidates from 109,486 in 2023 to 165,175 in 2025—a 50.9 percent increase. She highlighted growing enrollment in sciences and mathematics, urging students to pursue STEM subjects for economic growth.

Additionally, 21,000 more students qualified for university compared to last year, with ample spots available in public and private tertiary institutions.
