FUFA Academies League Set to Transform Uganda's Youth Football Landscape
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has launched the Academies League, a key part of its Technical Master Plan, starting with a pilot in Kampala and Buganda regions. The FUFA Academies League marks a significant milestone in Uganda’s football development, focusing on structured competitions for youth academies. This bold step stems from the FUFA Technical Master Plan introduced two years ago by President Moses Hassim Magogo.
The pilot phase kicks off in Kampala and Buganda regions, allowing FUFA to test the format, resolve issues, and standardize operations before a nationwide rollout. It emphasizes collaboration with academies, coaches, and parents to meet high standards.
Aimed at players born in 2011 and 2012 in Grade 2 and 3 academies, the league promotes skill development, exposure, and progression to senior levels. Strict eligibility rules, including age limits and licensing, ensure fairness and safety.
Government backing through the National Sports Act facilitates academy registration, boosting credibility and infrastructure. FUFA drew inspiration from successful models in Senegal, Ghana, Morocco, and Egypt, adapting them locally.
This initiative promises to nurture technically skilled, tactically sharp players for Uganda’s over ten national teams, revolutionizing grassroots football.
