The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) announced on March 13, 2026, that it is withholding the 2025 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results for 351 candidates involved in exam irregularities.
UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo revealed that these cases surfaced in 47 out of 2,452 examination centers. He emphasized that malpractice incidents at this level remain low, citing Section 5(2)(b) of the UNEB Act, which mandates withholding results pending investigations.
Primary offenses involved candidates getting assistance during science practical papers, having unauthorized materials, and impersonation. Odongo noted that hearings for Primary Leaving Exam (PLE) cases are ongoing, with Universal Certificate of Education (UCE) cases starting March 16, 2026.
He praised the Uganda Police, Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces, and other security forces for ensuring smooth exams. A total of 166,400 candidates registered for the 2025 UACE, up 17.2% from 141,996 in 2024, with 43.7% females. Actual sitters numbered 165,172.
Under the UPOLET program, 42,327 candidates registered, representing 25.4% of the total. Results are accessible via school portals, SMS on MTN and Airtel, with hard copies available at UNEB Kyambogo offices next week.
