Police in Mubende District recovered the body of four-year-old Kazungu Daniel, who was kidnapped and murdered after his family failed to meet a Shs6 million ransom demand.

The boy went missing from his home in Nalutete LC1, Kiyonga Parish, Kigando Sub-county, on March 9. His father, Eric Baingana, discovered the child missing around 5am when preparing the children for school. The rear door was found open, suggesting a break-in while the family slept.

The kidnapper contacted Baingana demanding Shs6 million but accepted only Shs1 million sent by the family. Investigators later learned the boy had already been killed.

A joint operation by Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence and police Flying Squad arrested the suspect, Emmanuel Muwanguzi from Kisonde LC1, Rwigo Parish, Kibaale District, in Kibaati, Kansanga, Makindye Division, Kampala.

Muwanguzi reportedly confessed to the kidnapping, murder, and dumping the body in a pit latrine owned by Frank Rwabutariye in Nalutete village. Fire brigade officers retrieved the body on Thursday and took it to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

The suspect faces murder charges and will appear in court soon. Authorities condemned the crime and called for public vigilance against suspicious activities.
