Kitara FC etched their name in history by thrashing Buhimba 4-0 in a thrilling Bunyoro derby at the brand-new Hoima City Stadium on Friday evening. This marked the venue’s first competitive league match, drawing a massive crowd that overwhelmed security, prompting police to use teargas on fans trying to enter.
George Senkaaba opened the scoring in the fourth minute, capitalizing on a poorly cleared corner to fire home from close range. He doubled his tally nine minutes later with a header from another corner that goalkeeper Jamil Kiyimba failed to deal with properly.
Buhimba responded by substituting Kiyimba with Ronald Mutebi, but the damage continued. Kabon Living curled in a direct corner-kick goal on 33 minutes, then added his second goal early in the second half, assisted by Edson Agondeze, as Buhimba struggled to threaten.
The second half saw Buhimba improve with more possession and long-range shots, but they couldn’t break through. This result contrasts sharply with their earlier 1-0 win over Kitara in the opening round, while Buhimba now sit 14th, just two points above the relegation zone.
The win boosts Kitara to 46 points, trailing leaders Vipers by only one, with Vipers playing on Saturday. Moving the match from Butema to Hoima proved a smart call by Kitara’s leadership, though it’s unclear if future home games, including against Villa and NEC, will follow suit.
Other UPL results: Police 0-1 NEC, Bul 0-0 Mbarara.
