Police in Iganga District have initiated a manhunt for Anthony Kalulu, accused of fatally attacking his 56-year-old mother, Sylvia Bakulimya, from Kasolo Village in Bulamagi Sub-county.
The incident reportedly took place on March 12, 2026, amid a heated dispute over a land sales agreement. Witnesses saw Kalulu threatening Bakulimya the previous day.
On March 11, Kalulu’s brother, Edward Kawoma, sent his wife to check on their mother, but she was missing. Kalulu claimed ignorance of her whereabouts. Later that night, Kawoma found the house locked and, upon entering with Kalulu’s help, discovered a suspicious heap of soil and blood-stained items in the bedroom.
A search by Kawoma, local leaders, and residents uncovered more bloodied clothes and bedsheets in a nearby pit latrine. Police were alerted, and they exhumed Bakulimya’s body from inside the house, noting head injuries.
Investigators recovered key evidence including a panga, axe, and stick with apparent blood stains. The body was taken to Iganga Hospital mortuary for postmortem as the probe continues.
Efforts to apprehend the fugitive are ongoing, with a land conflict believed to be the motive.
