Hundreds of students at Ntenungi Secondary School are reeling from a fierce blaze that gutted their boys’ dormitory, dubbed London City, on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred around 8:00 pm in the Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, Kamwenge district, western Uganda. Head teacher Burnet Nuwagaba explained that students spotted flames from the dorm while in evening prep classes and rushed with teachers to douse it using water, but the fire spread rapidly.

Beds, mattresses, bedding, clothing, metallic trunks, and schoolbooks went up in smoke, alongside severe roof damage to the structure. Thankfully, no injuries were reported since the dormitory was empty at the time.

The cause remains unknown, with police now investigating the matter as the school assesses the full extent of losses.
