Uganda’s Parliament is gearing up for the second reading of the much-anticipated Copyright Amendment Bill, a pivotal moment in the legislative journey.
Eddy Kenzo, president of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), confirmed the development via social media on Wednesday evening. He expressed excitement, noting the bill’s scheduled debate for Thursday.
This stage allows MPs to scrutinize the proposals, debate their merits, and propose amendments before advancing to the third reading and final vote.
For years, musicians have advocated for these changes to bolster copyright enforcement, enabling better earnings and safeguarding of their intellectual property in the creative sector.
Leaders like Kenzo are optimistic that the bill will deliver essential reforms to support Uganda’s artists.
