Cricket Uganda is poised to introduce the new head coach for the Cricket Cranes, its senior men’s national team, after a rigorous international search. The unveiling is scheduled for this morning at Entebbe Cricket Oval, where the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Division II Qualifier is underway.

The recruitment process, launched on January 26 with applications closing on February 10, attracted more than 75 candidates from 14 nations including South Africa, India, Australia, New Zealand, West Indies, and others. A five-member panel shortlisted 10 finalists, evaluating them on eight criteria such as coaching credentials, technical expertise, leadership, and alignment with Uganda’s cricket vision.

The new coach replaces India’s Abhay Sharma. Richard Okia, Head of High Performance and Pathways, emphasized the search for a leader with proven high-performance experience to foster a sustainable cricket culture and integrate youth pathways.

The announcement will blend with community events under the ICC Cricket for Good program, including school student interactions with international players and a Women in Leadership initiative. This comes as the Cricket Cranes gear up for key regional and ICC qualification matches.
