A major shift in East Africa’s media landscape occurred as Tanzanian businessman Rostam Azizi purchased a controlling stake in Nation Media Group (NMG) from the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development.
The Aga Khan entity had held the 54.08% share through NPRT Holdings Africa Limited for 66 years, nurturing NMG’s growth across the region.
Azizi, operating via his firm Taarifa Ltd, now steps in as the primary shareholder of this influential media powerhouse.
NMG operates key brands such as Daily Monitor, NTV Uganda, NTV Kenya, KFM, and Dembe FM, which reach millions in Uganda, Kenya, and beyond.
This transaction ends a significant chapter for the Aga Khan’s investments and could influence NMG’s future editorial path.
Rostam Azizi heads a diverse empire in mining, telecoms, agriculture, real estate, energy, and more.
