President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni held a key meeting with National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders from Greater Masaka at State Lodge in Masaka. The session, arranged by Masaka City Woman MP-elect Hon. Justine Nameere, focused on practical solutions for citizens’ woes.

Museveni stressed the need to confront local corruption head-on, slamming leaders who stay silent on graft. He argued that failing to call out district-level thieves erodes trust and hampers services, urging MPs to demand fixes for everyday problems instead of endless debates.

He pushed NRM figures to boldly highlight government successes, like wealth-building initiatives, without fearing backlash. Sectarianism based on tribe or religion was labeled a toxic divider that must be rejected.

Praising Nameere’s grit—recalling her election win via a vote recount despite rigging attempts—Museveni shared a personal tale. His schooling in the 1950s and 1960s was funded by cattle sales to buyers from diverse backgrounds, proving development thrives on cross-community ties.

The President spotlighted anti-poverty drives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Operation Wealth Creation (OWC). PDM channels funds directly to parishes for those over 18, bypassing distant districts to reach households effectively.

Nameere expressed gratitude for Museveni’s advice, vowing to rally Masaka leaders behind these programs to boost livelihoods and fight poverty.
