A Grade One Magistrate at Nakawa Court, Frank Namanya, has thrown out the arson and incitement to violence charges against Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, deputy spokesperson for the National Unity Platform (NUP).

The magistrate ruled that the prosecution did not indicate the exact location in Kampala where the alleged incident occurred, rendering the charge defective and giving the court no jurisdiction.

Even with this dismissal, Mufumbiro remains behind bars facing a different case related to taking part in an illegal military-style drill. He appeared in Nakawa Magistrate’s Court recently as that matter progresses.

NUP celebrated the decision on social media, calling the dropped charges baseless while decrying the ongoing ‘unlawful drilling’ accusation as absurd. The party affirmed their resolve, stating, “We shall overcome!”

The situation continues to spark debate, with opposition backers claiming authorities are weaponizing the justice system against critics.
