Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) is set to host the 16th rendition of the annual Inter-Forces Games and Championships. The official media launch took place at UWA’s head office, with senior representatives from the participating forces in attendance. The disciplines include athletics, range shooting, darts, football, netball, handball, volleyball, and taekwondo.

The games are scheduled to kick off on September 19th and conclude on September 30th, 2022. The official opening ceremony will be held on September 23rd at the Uganda Wildlife Research and Training Institute in Katwe. This will be followed by a tree-planting initiative in Katwe town as a Corporate Social Responsibility activity, and a football match between a select team of the forces and a local community team.

UWA Executive Director, Mr. Sam Mwandha, highlighted the significance of sports not only for the professional development and discipline of staff but also as a crucial tool for promoting conservation efforts and enhancing institutional visibility. “Sports is one of the ways through which we reach out to the public with a conservation agenda,” Mwandha stated.

He also noted the challenges posed by insufficient funding for sports, which can hinder the implementation of directives to employ sports personalities within government entities. Despite these hurdles, UWA has prioritized sports development, establishing professional clubs in darts, athletics, and football.

Representatives from the security forces emphasized that the Inter-Forces Games are vital for fostering collaboration, which is essential for maintaining peace, security, and economic development in the country. The games aim to promote discipline, physical and mental fitness, teamwork, and positive relations between the security forces and the public.
