"The Ministry of Health would like to inform the general public that Uganda has confirmed her first case of Coronavirus disease or COVID-19. 

The confirmed case is a 36-year-old Ugandan male who arrived from Dubai today morning Saturday 21 March 2020 at 2 am aboard Ethiopian Airlines.

During the screening process at the airport, his temperature was 38.7°C forcing the authorities at the airport to isolate him for further follow up. 

Subsequent temperatures taken at intervals of 30 minutes and one hour remained the same, He was evacuated to Entebbe Grade B for further follow up where a nasal swab was taken..." Uganda's Health Minister Dr. Jan Ruth Aceng confirmed.

In light of the above development, the President was forced to  issue new directives

No one is allowed into the country... All passenger planes coming from outside Uganda are not allowed to land at any of the airports in Uganda except for cargo planes that can can fly in and out of the country.

The other exception is for planes that develop a problem, those can be allowed to land because it is against the international law if we stopped it from landing, the President added.

Domestic flights will continue for now since we don't yet have cases inside (that was then, but the situation has changed, we now have one confirmed case), this could easily be affected going forward.

"No passenger planes, or human movement entering Uganda or leaving Uganda except for cargo drivers and their support staff, this applies to road trucks as well."

No person, Uganda or otherwise will be allowed to enter Uganda by land or water except for the drivers and accompanying crews not exceeding three in number for cargo transport vehicles such as trailers, lorries or even pickups.

The President of Uganda in his latest communication about the Coronavirus went on to say that;

"No buses, no mini buses, saloon cars. no boda bodas will be allowed in the country. Also pedestrians will not be allowed or even those riding bicycles will not be allowed to enter Uganda by road, path or water nor will the be allowed to exit by those means."

This measure comes into effect today March 22,2020 at Midday.
