Diamond Platnumz and Rayvanny and inset is the BASATA letter banning the duo from perfoming outside Tanzania
The Wasafi Records boss Diamond Platnumz and Rayvanny who is signed to the record label were yesterday banned by the music and entertainment regulator, Baraza la Sanaa la Taifa (BASATA) from performing
Yesterday's ban follows their performing of the 'Mwanza' banned song during their Wasafi Festival tour. The lyrics of the Mwanza song are inappropriate and efforts of the Wasafi team to have the song played after peak hours did not yield to much.
The singer was set to perform in Mombasa and Nairobi among others, but the ban was clear, he is not authorized to perform outside the country.
''BASATA's rules come from the government so if he decides to go ahead with his festivals despite the ban he will have committed treason.''
Mwanza is singer Diamond's third song to be banned this year after Hallelujah and Waka Waka.
The actions of the regulator are triggered by the Wasafi boss going against the terms that were laid down and it is also said that he had a fine of up to Ugx 14.5Million that he was yet to pay.
His wife to be, Tanasha Donna is already in Mombasa to cover the event live for her radio slot, but with the current developments, it is not clear if the events will go on as planned.
This is a blow to the Wasafi boss and the right thing to do is for him to adhere to the conditions set by the regulator and his earnings won't be affected, but for an artist who charges USD70K for his foreign shows, this is certainly not a good thing. Many have been wondering how this will be enforced, but for him to leave the country for a performance abroad, he has to be cleared by BASATA, so he cannot avoid them either way.
Diamond Platnumz is not the only artiste having issues with the authorities, Bobi Wine is equally having issues with authorities here as his concerts have been banned.
