Former Kampala Mayor Ssebaana Kizito dies aged 83

Former Democratic Party (DP) President, John Ssebaana Kizito, died this morning at Nakasero Hospital where he's been battling a stroke that left one side of his body paralyzed. According to one of the specialists that has been attending to him at the hospital's ICU unit, the former Kampala Mayor died at 10:30am.

Ssebaana was admitted two weeks back and just last week, the Kabaka of Buganda and the Speaker of Parliament were at the Nakasero Hospital to check on the Statewide Insurance Company (SWICO) Chairman.

He led the DP party from 2005 to 2010. "Rest in Peace President Emeritus Dr. John Ssebaana Kizito. You emphatically loved Brain Power at play in the game of politics," The current DP President, Norbert Mao tweeted.

"He has left a huge legacy and the best the youngsters can do is to emulate him," The Lord Mayor of Kampala, Erias Lukwago said.

In 2006, Ssebaana represented the Democratic Party in the 2006 Uganda Presidential Elections and before that, he had been elected the Kampala Mayor twice and served as a Minister from 1985 to 1991 in different portfolios.

This was in 2011 during Angela Kalule's Katiki Tiki launch when the late Ssebana Kizito took to the floor to dance with Angela and also tried a Pakachini dance with Jose Chameleone.
