Initially it was PAM Awards targeting all categories of Music for the awards.This saw musicians from all categories walking away with prizes and awards.The Gospel fraternity felt marginalized and decided to come up with their version of the awards dubbed Victoria International Gospel Awards.

Bugembe Scoops VIGA Artist of the Year Award

Pastor Wilson Bugembe has scooped the premier Victoria Gospel Award.

Bugembe won the main artist of the year award in recognition of his real life compositions that evoke emotions even to the non gospel lovers.

Bugembe whose popular song "Njagala Kukumanya Mukama" (I want to Know you God), usually sings in praise to God who has brought him so far in life, especially after losing his parents and brother to AIDS.

The VIGA Awards are Uganda's National Interdenominational gospel awards, through which the gospel Music industry recognizes and rewards its peers for their musical accomplishments.

Judith Babirye (Beera Nange) scooped the album of the year award, while Mesach Semakula's Kankutendereze won him the song of the year award.

Other Award winners are Pastor Robert Kayanja of Miracle center cathedral who scooped the VIGA Merit Award, while Keeno Charles of the Bibbawo fame scooped the Male artist of the year award.URN.
