Hundreds of people were seeking refuge in a church only to be burned down by a mob of over 2,000 men armed with machetes. As post-election violence spread across Kenya, a church in Eldoret was set ablaze by rowdy protesters. The dead were mostly women and children whose houses had been destroyed previously and now seeking refuge from the Kenya Assemblies of God Church.
Some managed to escape the fire but were hunted down with machetes. The dead were from the kikuyu tribe of Mwai Kibaki.
Meanwhile the EU report says the poll was flawed and calls for an audit. Chief Observer, Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, said though Kenyans had high expectations about the election, the exercise fell short of the UN Charter on Civil and Political Rights which Kenya had subscribed to.
Mwai Kibaki was sworn in shortly after being declared winner and since then over 300 people have been killed in post-election clashes.
