The death toll for the Monday landslide has shot to 86 and over 400 people are still missing. A nurse who was attending to a mother who was giving birth was able to call some people and assured them that the baby and mother were all alive.
However, the weather coupled with the long distance to the accident scene is hampering the rescue efforts. President Museveni was at Bududa to asses the situation He first toured the affected area by air and then later addressed a gathering at Bukalasa grounds. He ordered all the survivors to vacate the area and also promised government support for those affected.
Other Districts at risk of landslides are Manafa, Sironko and Bukwo among others. The Red Cross, Uganda Police and Uganda People's Defence Forces(UPDF) continue with the search for survivors and relocating them to safer grounds. Government has pledged 200mn to support the Bududa victims.
