Jinja hospital has suffured a blood shortage for the past one week leading to patients being referred to Mulago hospital which is 80 kms away putting lives of several patients at risk. The hospital in Jinja is serving ten districts in the entire Busoga region.
According to Mr. Mugisha William of Nakasero Blood Bank, he said there was a general blood shortage in the country with the blood bank receiving 60,000 units of blood coupled with the high demand of transfusion.
One six year old suffering from Meningitis was referred from Jinja to Mulago for blood transfusion just because there was hardly any blood in Jinja.
