Microsoft Inc and Yahoo have gotten into some sort of partnership that will last for ten years. In the deal Microsoft will access Yahoo's search information and audience which is the reason for the partnership. Microsoft will use the deal to promote it's recently launched search engine, Bing.
As part of the deal, Yahoo will retain 88% of the income generated from search requests in the first five years, It will also be free to sell advertising space on some of Microsoft's sites.
Yahoo is of the view that the deal will increase its annual profits and reduce on its annual expenditures now that there isn't any major investments that will be required to pump in its own search technology. During a Wednesday conference call, Yahoo's chief executive Carol Bartz said some engineers will have to loose their jobs in the process.
Google is an authority in search and Microsoft is an authority in Operating System(OS) through its Microsoft Internet Explorer. However, Google has come up with Chrome an operating system for cheap PCs which will divert some revenue from Microsoft. Just recently Microsoft launched Bing which is by far and large the closest competitor to Google. The fight between the two simply means great things are in the offing for the users.
