URA in drive to have all vehicles registered online

If you have driven along Entebbe-Kampala highway, you will notice the huge billboards on the sides. On the billboards you see this message: "Get Out of Line Get Online-Quick Vehicle Online Registration Today! Does that Vehicle belong to you?"

Uganda Revenue Authority is in a drive to have all the vehicles registered online. Vehicle owners will have to go to the URA website ura.go.ug and enter all the relevant vehicle particulars.

The Vehicle Online Registration is a move that URA is resorting to in curbing duplicate number plates. The beauty with this is that once a number plate is entered into the system, it will not accept similar number plates and in this way, car owners will voluntarily drive to URA to establish who the rightful owner is.

A month back, Uganda Revenue Authority impounded over 300 vehicles with identical number plates something that forced them to mount a search on those behind the vice and their efforts have landed on some four whom they suspect to have hacked into their database.

Now if you have a vehicle and the logbook is not in your name, then the question of; Does that vehicle belong to you? might have to be addressed by either ensuring that you effect the transfer from the previous owner, or to ensure that the person/company that sold you formalises the transfer process.

It becomes practically impossible to fill that URA online form if the name on the log-book is not yours unless when the online form will be designed to accomodate that. We will let you know as soon as that form is up and running on the URA website.

How stupid and futile that this is. URA assumes that everyone in Uganda 1.Has Internet access 2.Is computer Iiterate Also does URA expect people who have duplicate number plates and they know it to show up at URA and inquire at about the genuine owner of the number -plate? I have once tried to use the URA website, it is the most badly designed website I have found with forms which are, un necessarily long, frustrating and unusable. A computer cannot solve a problem that you cannot solve on paper.

I think we have to be positive on some of these initiatives. Yen, you have a point for URA to review and update their website... and this should not stop URA to begin online registration which will also be a mechanism of improving the use of ICT. Let's us support them, it is our country and it is all about "US and our children". Cheers.

C'mon Yen wake up. 1 - Internet is now on our cellphones, no need to run around with a computer 2 - Computer illitracy is no excuse bse we have Internet cafes dotted everywhere. And how did these guys buy their cars? Did they go straight to japan? 3 - some education: duplicate number plates are legal. Maybe u meant fake number plates. Duplicate plates are the ones u get (as replacement) when u lose your original plates. Am happy with URA bse it will help us get those fake plates. We won't be duped in buying cars with fake plates. Change is hard for people, but embrace the change (not the computer) and get on line and stop procrastinating. Enway u will hav to, whether u like it or not

@ Chrissy thanks for that explanation. duplicate number plates are legal-"Duplicate plates are the ones u get (as replacement) when u lose your original plates" You are right Duplicate plates are legal but the challenge URA has been faced with were the fake duplicates. You could be having a number plate which is fake and you do not know. The new system will address all this. It issues one number plate and it will be genuine.

thank you URA for bringing this new way of getting rid of frauds in those selling cars that are not in the proper line with our commercial integrity. Ugandans will reform in transacting business.It is hurting but good to find who is wrong and right the buyer and the seller of cars on uganda market.

i would be glad if revenue authority officials fisrt desinged car registration form procedures before they came out to the public to pronounce that project, it would save time for one to run thru' the whole web site looking for the starting point.can some official of revenue guide me of how i can transfar my car? thankyou.

I wish to be advised of what to do. A thief was trying to remove my behind number plate.In that process he broke it and he ran away.So the part that remained on the vehicle is that on the alphabet UAB. Now I want to get a duplicate number plate for the behind part.Whats the process of getting another one. Pls advise me using the given email address

Your transfer system sucks first of all no body answers your toll free number secondly no body in your offices can assist any one to get to know how to go about with transfers.registration,etc especially in crested towers what do you want from us then. please take this very seriouly am fed up.
