The cop who fired directly at a crowd last Sunday was yesterday charged with murder and remanded to Luzira prison until February 08, 2012. Santos Makmot Komakech was paraded before the Nakawa court while his boss Agaba was released on police bond and asked to report to Jinja police on Friday.
Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) chairman Meddie Kaggwa has condemned the act and the manner in which KCCA officials handled the Luzira eviction exercise that cost lives and injured many.
In a related development, the Kampala Mayor had convened a meeting to discuss a way forward on how KCCA should handle such matters among others, but the councillors from the ruling NRM party walked out on him leaving him with no choice but to postpone the meeting to a future date.
The lord mayor said that the meeting was meant to discuss matters to do with physical planning now that the person in charge had been interdicted.
