The Jinja Municipality East MP Nathan Igeme Nabetta has lost his parliamentary seat due to unverified academic papers. The former Minister was dragged to court by his opponent Mwiru Paul of the Forum for Democratic Change(FDC).
This petition was earlier dismissed in Jinja for lack of substantive evidence but later referred to the court of appeal that overturned the ruling. The electoral commission has been asked to conduct fresh elections within two months.
Igeme's parliamentary profile indicates that he has been a Member of Parliament since 2001-2011, attained a Uganda Certificate of Education (UACE) from Busoga College Mwiri in 1989. The profile has other qualifications he got from abroad like the Associate Degree from Los Angeles, plus a BBA majoring in International Business from Oklahoma State University.
However, all that does not add up according to the three Court of Appeal judges who unanimously agreed to nullify Igeme's election.
