YouTube Uganda Domain Name Launched

The launch of the YouTube domain by Google in Uganda
Uganda is steadily taking it's position in Africa when it comes to issues of the internet. Kenya and South Africa have for long been dominating some of these innovations when it comes to which countries to consider in Africa, but not anymore as Uganda has now joined them.

This can be further seen from Youtube launching a local domain tagged to Uganda www.youtube.co.ug which is the world's largest video sharing service owned by Google. On YouTube, you can upload your own videos that can be shared and viewed globally.

"Through such platforms like YouTube, Uganda will be able to market itself to the rest of the world more easily. YouTube has presented us with a unique opportunity, and I call upon all Ugandans to use it as a platform to showcase the features of our country that make us fully Ugandan - music, wildlife, news, tourist sites, and so on," said the Information and Communication Technology Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda.

The first step to attracting foreign fans is do not isolate them. Make it easy for foreign fans to find your work whether it be your music, entertainment, or something you want the world to know. The point of posting a video on youtube is to get the maximum number of viewers to see your music, entertainment or whatever you want them to know about you. Posting on youtube Uganda is a step backwards for any Ugandan singer/rapper who sings/raps in English trying to get their music noticed by foreigners who haven't heard of them. To cover all bases just post on the worldwide youtube.

@ Kika you are too lost...!The video posted on .co.ug will still appear in the results of .com depending on where the person searching is located, they will still deliver similar results. But before you capture the foreign market, you must have satsfied the local market...!

@Bamz, I am not lost!!!!! You are the one who is lost because you misunderstood what I said! I KNEW before you wrote your post that the videos posted on co.ug are also on YouTube worldwide. 99% of the Ugandan artists don't try to capture foreign markets! If the Ugandan artists go to tour abroad they go to sing/rap for Ugandan fans because 99% of their music is in Luganda or swahili. Even the Ugandan artists who sing/rap in English only target ugandans living abroad. Ugandan singers/rappers that can sing/rap in English like Toniks, Juliana k., navio, Michael Ross, Jackie chandiru, Cindy, Big Tonny should also target the European and American audience.

Some of Ugandan artists have already satisfied the local market. Benon and his producer skills, Just Jose, Keko, and the other artists I mentioned in my above post have what it takes to capture the European and America market. The best thing that can happen to a Ugandan artist's career is for them to be known by Americans and Europeans for their music. Ugandan artists seem to limit themselves to the Ugandan audience living in Uganda and abroad.
