CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:
Nation Media Group Ltd., the leading multi-media house in east and central Africa is growing and wishes to expand and strengthen the nation broadcasting division staff capability for it's NTV Uganda station.

The jobs available include:
1. General Manager - Job Ref: HR-GM-06-06
The role:
- Provide leadership and guidance on all aspects of the operation;
- Preparing the budgets and business plans;
- Maximize staff potential by developing and implementing a performance culture for the station;
- Formulate and recommend the strategic plans and objectives for the station;
- Review the performance of the NTV Uganda profit and make quarterly reports on the board, and
- Develop staff, recommend the organisation structure and staffing levels so as to achieve desired objectives.
Education, experience and skill sets: -
- Basic university degree with 7 to 10 years working experience in a senior level position;
- Proven business development skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrable track record on team work
- Tenacity and resolve to work in a fast faced high pressure job, and
- Some media experience in print or broadcast.
2. Sales Manager - Job Ref: HR-SM-06-06
Key result areas will include:
- Delivering both revenue and market share targets
- Planning, coordinating, controlling and supervising a team of sales executives
- Motivating the sales team to deliver the NTV Uganda revenue executives
- Managing NTV Uganda advertising against production deadlines, and
- Maintaining and sustaining quality service to customers and stakeholders.
Education, experience, and skill sets: -
- Basic university degree with 5 to 10 years working experience, 2 of which
should be in a line management position (sales experience in a similar environment will be an added advantage);
- Proven business development skills and track record in both sales and collections;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrable track record of team work; and
- Tenacity and resolve to work in a fast faced high pressure job
3. Technical Manager - Job Ref: HR-TM-06-06
Key result areas will include:
Supervise a team of technical staff in a busy broadcasting environment
Draw up and control approved technical department budgets
Ensure maintenance of equipment is to the highest standard so that the broadcasting stations are continuously on air
Coordinate full disciplinary engineering activities and services
Keeping abreast of advancements in the communications technology and advise the company on the best options on realizing its business objectives
Preparing technical plans for new projects and improvement of existing broadcasting facilities, and
Liaising with the broadcasting regulatory authorities and advise the company appropriately.
Education, experience and skill sets: -
University graduate in engineering
Extensive experience in information technologies administration and software management
Ability and readiness to work long hours
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills at all staff and at community level
High degree of integrity and dependability, and
Related experience in media is an added advantage
4. News Manager - Job Ref: HR-NM-06-06
Key result areas will include:
Providing leadership in news coverage
Planning the daily news coverage while ensuring that the news are comprehensive and accurate in content, with the viewers' interest in mind
Planning the newsroom manpower planning
Managing the daily newsroom staff news conferences
Ensuring that strict deadlines are achieved
Ensuring standard operating procedures are followed in news gathering, production and presentation
Identifying talent and initiating recruitment, and
Developing NTV Uganda news related programs to attract viewer ship and increase the station's ratings
Education, experience and skill sets: -
Basic university degree and a diploma in journalism
5 to 7 years experience
Thorough knowledge of current affairs
Must be results oriented and have ability to cope with flexible tasks
Possess excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrable track record of teamwork, and
Ability to work under pressure for long hours
5. Production Manager - Job Ref: HR-PM-06-06
Key result areas will include:
Ensuring effective liaison between production and content staff in a channel which has a highly cross-trained workforce
- Planning and supervising in-house productions
- Planning and supervising the budgets
- Contributing programme ideas
- Planning and controlling production process
- Production of commercials and copywriting
- Conducting research so as to gather background information necessary to complete assigned programmes
- Maintaining close and effective contact with programme input sources, and
- Ensuring that production targets and deadlines are met
Education, experience and skill sets: -
- 5 years experience in the television industry
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the entire TV production process
- Excellent planning and organizing skills
- Attention to detail, and
- Time perspective in order to effectively manage strict deadlines
6. Finance & Administration Manager - Job Ref: HR-FAM-06-06
Key result areas will include:
Managing daily financial and administrative activities of the station;
Preparing and presenting monthly financial performance to the senior management highlighting expected areas of improvement;
Preparing and consolidating the station's budgets using provided background information
Preparing weekly and monthly performance reports
Producing the management accounts for the station
Reviewing and recommending improvement in the structure of management reports
Preparing audit schedule and coordinating queries by internal and external auditors
Developing cost allocation parameters for final production and reviewing the same to ensure updated ratios of the product mix, and
Education, experience and skill sets: -
Basic university degree in accounting
Qualified certified public accountant or equivalent
Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated track record teamwork, and
Ability to work under pressure for long hours
7. Human Resources Officer - Job Ref: HR-HRO-06-06
Key result areas will include:
Offer HR administration support required by the station in the following areas: -
- Recruitment and selection
- Staff training and development
- Manpower planning and resourcing
- Staff welfare programmes
- Staff disciplinary and motivational issues
- Payroll inputs
- Maintenance of employee records
- Leave management, and
- Lead and support for the conduct of staff appraisals and review processes
Education, experience and skill sets: -
- University degree
- Diploma in human resource management, and
- 3 to 5 years working experience
8. Programs Coordinator - Job Ref: HR-PC-06-06
Key result areas will include:
Coordinating the acquisition and promotion of the station's television programs
Liaising with international and local suppliers for delivery of programs and contracts
Previewing programming for purposes of internal and external presentations
Preparing monthly stock accounts and payments schedule, and
Preparing program promotional material for publicity
Education, experience and skill sets: -
Diploma in television production, journalism or 2 years experience in a TV presentation department
Proficient in MS Excel and PowerPoint
Creative with a keen eye for detail, and
Able to work long hours with minimum supervision
9. Accountant-Job Ref: HB -A-06-2006
Key result areas will include:
- Preparing the daily cash report and advice on optimum investment avenues:
- Ensuring that all cash received is received and properly banked
- Reviewing and authorizing all approved disbursement up payment cycles
- Review creditors ledger
- Handle and settling customers' accounts, and
- Must have demonstrable hands-on experience with accounting systems. Knowledge of the SAP system will be an added advantage
Education, experience and skill sets: -
- University degree
- At least CPA Part II or equivalent, and
- 2 years working experience
10. Accounts Assistant - Job Ref: HR-AA-06-06
Key result areas will include:
- Reconciliation of the company's bank accounts on a timely basis
- Liaising with cashiers and banks to sort out any issues arising thereof
- Maintaining petty cash floats and accounting for the same
- Billing of orders and maintaining sales ledgers
- Dispatching customers' statements on a timely basis, and
- Checking commission computations and compiling payment schedules
Education, experience and skill sets: -
- University degree
- Pursuing CPA or equivalent, and
- At least 2 years experience in a busy commercial environment
