Pakistan Opposition Leader, Benazir Bhutto daughter to former premier Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was assassinated on December 27, 2007 in Rawalpindi shortly after a rally for the January 2008 Elections in which she was a candidate.
Benazir Bhutto was shot twice in the neck and chest in the city of Rawalpindi which is 8 miles south of Islamabad by an attacker who blew himself as the car in which Bhutto was rushed to Rawalpindi General Hospital. She died an hour later.
Wasif Ali Khan a member of Bhutto's party who was at the hospital said she died at 6:16pm. Supporters of Bhutto on learning of her death took to the streets and started burning posters of other candidates, burning tires, forcing shop owners to close.
Its not clear what will happen to the elections slated for January 8 but Musharaf has announced 3 days of mourning. Rawalpindi is where Musharaf stays and that is where the Pakistan Army has its headquarters.
