In less than a week two opposition MPs have been killed in the current political and ethnic clashes in Kenya. ODM's Mugabe Were was killed on Monday and before his burial Hon. David Too has been shot by a policeman in Eldoret. The death of David Too has raised tension in Eldoret.
Mwai Kibaki is currently attending the AU summit in Ethiopia despite protests by the opposition. The AU Commission Chairman Mr.Alpha Oumar Konare has said that '' If Kenya burns there will be nothing for tomorrow" and also added that it is the duty of AU to support the mediation talks currently headed by Kofi Annan.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has said that President Mwai Kibaki and Opposition leader Raila Odinga have a special responsibility of solving the crisis peacefully. The clashes have left over 850 people dead and 250,000 displaced. The same crisis is going to cause all those suffering from HIV/AIDS to succumb to the disease very quickly as many of them can no longer access health centres.
Of the 250,000 displaced, official figures have put the numbers of those with HIV/AIDS at 15,000 and more are at risk especially in the camps which are make shift camps and not designed to take on the increasing numbers of refugees. Women and Children are at a greater risk. In such times battles are not only fought on ground but on women bodies too.
